Coming Soon: Launch of Alliance for Accelerating Excellence in Science in Africa

A new funding platform to develop African science strategies will kick-off in Kenya on 10 September. The establishment of the Alliance for Accelerating Excellence in Science in Africa (AESA) was announced earlier this year. Funding for AESA is provided by the UK’s Department for International Development (DfID), Wellcome Trust and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The launch will include a panel discussion on the “Future of Africa’s R&D”, along with an announcement of two new research funding programmes. “A panel of eminent leading African policymakers, leading scientists, business and youth leaders will discuss and debate topics that include the needs for domestic financing for R&D programmes in Africa,” says an announcement published on the African Academy of Sciences website.
