Background

According to an early concept note, the workshop's objective are:

  • Exchange experiences, information and ideas on the mechanisms and options of the RECs for engaging in Africa-EU cooperation in STI.
  • Explore potential synergies and/or areas of collaboration between RECs and Science Academies within the ERAfrica Initiative and the activities of NCPs.
  • Facilitate dialogue between RECs and their European counterparts on co-funded opportunities with the aim of informing the STISA-2024 implementation process.

"The first CAAST-Net Plus workshop with the RECs and representatives of African, European and global science academies identified the ERAfrica Initiative as one promising opportunity for collaboration," the concept note says.

What is the ERAfrica Initiative?

"Participants expressed willingness to deepen the cooperation between the RECs, and for the cooperation between the RECs and the science academies in the context of the Africa-EU collaboration in STI."
