EC Plans Next Research Framework Programme for 2021-2028
According to an article published by Science Business, public consultations towards the Framework Programme 9 (FP9) began in October 2016, which received the inputs of researchers and the private sector that participated in Horizon 2020 – the current EU R&I funding instrument.
Simultaneously, the Commission also embarked on a continuous foresight study dubbed the ‘Bohemia Study’, which involves a group of experts analyzing studies conducted by associations such as the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development and the World Bank. Robert Jan-Smits, Director-General for Research at the EC, stated that he was also “tapping top economists to help make a stronger case for the ways in which research and innovation contribute to the competitiveness of member state economies”, the article adds.
A total of €100 billion will be proposed by the European Parliament for FP9, and the programme's proposal is expected to be released in early 2018.
