The kick-off meeting will serve as a platform for identifying ways in which the Working Group can provide the oversight required for coordinating strategies of implementation for the Roadmap EU-Africa research and innovation (R&I) partnership on FNSSA while addressing gaps that require additional joint actions by both African and European actors.

According to an announcement published on the Research and Innovation Network for Europe and Africa, the Working Group is expected to oversee the "coordination between the different instruments, partners, and projects implementing the Roadmap." The announcement further adds that "included in this coordination is the need for monitoring and evaluating (M&E) the implementation of the Roadmap. In the beginning, the Working Group will focus its activities on M&E."

The meeting is expected to convene members of the Working Group and other FNSSA experts to draft a report on mechanisms to coordinate and strengthen the EU-Africa R&I partnership on FNSSA, which will be presented to senior officials of the the HLPD and at the Africa-EU Summit later this year.

The launch is organised alongside several meetings focusing on FNSSA, such as PROIntensAfrica's final project seminar, and the Effective and Efficient Research and Innovation Partnerships workshop.
