The new ESASTAP 2020 project, which networks South African and European researchers, innovators and policymakers, is organising a workshop on science for policy-making to accompany the its official launch. “The workshop will stimulate a robust discussion around science policy and showcase Framework Programme Seven (FP7) and Horizon 2020 (H2020) projects that have results which can influence policy and decision making,” says an announcement. The objectives of the new ESASTAP 2020 project (Strengthening Technology, Research and Innovation Cooperation between Europe and South Africa) will also be presented at an evening event. The European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) has announced a call for abstracts with a focus on its 2016 conference theme, which is Defeating Poverty-related and Neglected Diseases in Africa: Harnessing Research for Evidence-informed Policies. “Investigators involved in EDCTP-funded projects, in particular, are encouraged to use this opportunity to share new developments and results from their projects,” says the forum website. The PROIntensAfrica project has launched a survey to capture and map African research projects focusing on sustainable intensification in agriculture. “We want to identify the thematic coverage and the respective share of the different pathways of intensification,” says the survey announcement. Participants are requested to share information on their project activities, financial resources, commodities and indicators of impact. “This mapping exercise of related ongoing programs and research agendas will ensure that the domains, identified during the PROIntensAfrica project, will be inclusive, complementary and synergistic to existing and on-going (national, bilateral or international) activities,” the announcement adds. The European and Developing Counties Clinical Trials Partnerships (EDCTP) has announced six winners for research grants to fight future Ebola outbreaks. The grants announced on 6 November are worth a total of €1.5 million and are a collaborative effort of the EDCTP and The World Health Organisation's Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (WHO-TDR). The projects will be lead by African researchers from Gabon, Uganda, and Sierra Leone, and European researchers from Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom. The eighth forum of the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) will take place next year from 7-9 November, in Lusaka, Zambia. The EDCTP’s website announced that the forum will have the theme ‘Defeating poverty-related and neglected diseases in Africa: harnessing research for evidence informed policies.’ “[The] conference brings together speakers and delegates from research institutions and universities especially in Africa and Europe; global consortia, public-private partnerships and product development partnerships; other public and private organisations working on poverty-related and neglected infectious diseases; as well as from governments, regional bodies and industry,” says the announcement.
