XTRANET-ISA Features CAAST-Net Plus

An interview with CAAST-Net Plus project coordinator, Dr Andrew Cherry, first published by the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 website, has been re-posted on XTRANET-ISA, a communication platform for European research collaboration programmes. Cherry is quoted describing common challenges faced by the two continents. “For Africa, there is inevitably a focus on development, for example, using science and innovation to improve agriculture and food security for African populations and creating better healthcare systems. But these issues are no less important to Europe in light of social, demographic and economic challenges. There may be different perspectives and priorities but the benefits are mutual,” Cherry says. The coordinator of the CAAST-Net (and CAAST-Net Plus) projects, Dr Andrew Cherry, has reflected on the CAAST-Net project’s activities and achievements, in an interview with the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 website. “The project brought together researchers, politicians and policymakers from Europe and Africa around the table and encouraged exchange on a particular theme,” he is quoted as saying. “They returned to their places of work, enriched in their knowledge, in their mutual trust and technical and cultural understanding, thanks to these periods of discussion with their equivalents from Africa or Europe.” Cherry is a senior scientific officer at the Association of Commonwealth Universities, and is based in London.
