Major Gathering on Urban Food Policy

Local government officials from cities in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East are to gather in France later this year for a meeting with researchers and development actors on urban food policies. Among the organisers of the event, which will take place in Montpellier, is CAAST-Net Plus partner, CIRAD, a French centre promoting agricultural research for development. “The conference will explore three strategic levers that city and urban region governments can mobilize: markets infrastructure and logistics (wholesale, retail, transportation, etc.); catering services (school, popular restaurants, street food, etc.); the new forms of connection between urban and rural areas (twinning, urban investment in agriculture, etc.),” the event’s website says. Multi-stakeholder Food Security Scheme in Spotlight

http://l.caast-net-plus.org/ao

A new research paper published by the Public Administration and Policy Group at Wageningen University examines the Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock as a multi-stakeholder process in advancing food security. The Agenda partners hail from a variety of countries and organisation types including the African Union, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation, the French Agricultural Research for International Development, the International Livestock Research Institute and the World Bank. According to the authors’ abstract the paper has three overarching goals: to evaluate the Agenda; to look at its framework as a tool for governance; and to examine its potential impact. “The article illustrates how the governance capabilities framework can be used as a tool to analyse the multi-stakeholder platform for enhancing food security,” the abstract states.
