CAAST-Net Plus and COHRED To Test Research Fairness Initiative in Nigeria

COHRED’s Research Fairness Initiative is a system that promotes and validates fair collaborations in research and innovation by encouraging institutions to self-report on their policies and practices. CAAST-Net Plus is working with COHRED to arrange three regional workshops in Africa at which RFI can be reviewed, tested and improved. The Nigeria event is the second in the series of such workshops, and local partners in Nigeria include the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion, the Raw Materials Research and Development Council, and the Nigerian Academy of Science. CAAST-Net Plus Teams Up with KEMRI and COHRED Research Fairness Initiative

CAAST-Net Plus is working with the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) and the Council on Health Research for Development (COHRED) to arrange a workshop focused on the application of the COHRED Research Fairness Initiative (RFI) in East Africa. The RFI is a reporting system that encourages governments, business, organisations and funders to describe how they take measures to create trusting, lasting, transparent and effective partnerships in research and innovation. (For more information, see http://rfi.cohred.org/what-is-the-rfi/). Workshop information will be posted on this page as soon as it becomes available. [Image credit: CAAST-Net Plus]

Katharina Kuss of the Foundation for International Cooperation, Health and Social Policy in Spain, and Dr Najia Musolino of the Council on Health Research for Development (COHRED) attended last month’s Africa Health congress and exhibition in South Africa. Writing in a report published on Research Professional, Kuss and Musolino find that African health sector companies were “disappointingly absent” from the event. “This needs to change, and Africa-Europe research collaboration networks can help,” they argue.
