COHRED Fairness Index Explained

http://l.caast-net-plus.org/br

The Council on Health Research for Development (COHRED) is preparing to launch its Fairness Index (CFI) in 2016. The index, once implemented, will aim to create a standard by which research collaborations can be measured against good practice. Writing in an article published in The Lancet on 4 April 2015, COHRED representatives say that the CFI is “not about naming and shaming” but is rather a “mechanism that would encourage improvement of practices in international collaborative research partnerships for health”. The publication of the article preceded a multi-stakeholder brainstorm workshop hosted by COHRED in London at the Wellcome Trust on 16 and 17 April 2015, where the CFI concept was discussed. Seminar on Collaborative Health Research Fairness Index

The Council on Health Research for Development (COHRED) will host a seminar for further work on its proposed fairness index for international collaborative health research. The purpose of the COHRED Colloquium 4 is to establish a common global benchmark to allow data sharing and ownership, capacity building, technology transfer, and benefits of collaborative research for partner and associated institutions. Health research policy-makers will discuss what such an index should look like and how it could be utilised for maximum benefit for health actors across the globe, while improving health in less developed countries. For further information on the colloquium, send an email to Najia Musolino at musolino[at]cohred.org. [Image credit: COHRED]
