IST-Africa Advances International Horizon 2020 Collaboration

A series of IST-Africa Horizon 2020 workshops, to take place in southern and eastern Africa, are being planned for November 2014. Host countries, some of which are yet to be confirmed, for the workshops include: Malawi, Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda and Burundi. The IST-Africa project recently participated in a session on international cooperation opportunities within Horizon 2020 at the ICT Proposers Day 2014, held in Florence, Italy earlier this month. “IST-Africa is specifically supporting ICT-39 (focused on engagement with Africa) in the context of LEIT [Leadership in Enabling and Industrial Technologies] 2015 Calls for Proposals, which closes on 14 April 2015,” their website reports. Africa Climate Resilient Infrastructure Summit

Ninety ministers and 800 delegates are expected to attend the Africa Climate Resilient Infrastructure Summit, which is being hosted in Ethiopia in November. “ACRIS aims at assisting African Union Member States in preparing for and implementing measures related to resilient infrastructures in their respective countries, as well as in developing and strengthening local, regional and international cooperation,” the event’s website says. Trainers Wanted to Run Pilot Courses on Sustainable Energy Use in Agriculture in East Africa

The German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) is calling for tenders under its programme Powering Agriculture – Sustainable Energy in the Food Sector. Interested institutes from Ethiopia, South Africa, Swaziland, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda are invited to propose training programmes that reduce greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture and food production through energy efficiency measures. The Health Inc. project, an FP7-funded research and innovation partnership, will host its final conference from 28-29 October 2014 in Antwerp, Belgium. Touted as the project’s “largest dissemination event”, the conference will address social exclusion as the “common determinant affecting the performance of health financing and social protection reforms”.
