Ethiopian researchers are invited to register to attend an information day on European Union’s research and innovation funding instrument Horizon 2020. “The purpose of the event is to inform researchers and research institutions on the European Union's Horizon 2020 programme, opportunities for Ethiopian researchers and conditions for participation,” says an announcement published on the European Commission’s website. A meeting on the role of women and youth in EU-Africa research collaboration on food security and sustainable agriculture will take place at Expo Milano 2015. “The event offers a unique visibility opportunity and an exclusive platform for bringing together new ideas, discuss innovative solutions and challenging opportunities,” says the event’s webpage. The meeting is organised by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation and supports ongoing efforts to develop a roadmap on EU-Africa research and innovation partnership on food and nutrition security and sustainable agriculture. The European Commission has invited Horizon 2020 stakeholders and grantees to participate in an evaluation. Their goals? To establish the impact of the existing Horizon 2020 simplification measures, and to explore new simplification measures. According to the Horizon 2020 participant portal, there are two versions of the survey: a version targeting actual participants in ongoing Horizon 2020 projects (by personal invitation); and an open version for all types of stakeholders available on http://l.caast-net-plus.org/er. EU and Africa to Discuss Renewable Energy

The European Commission, the Africa-EU Energy Partnership Secretariat, and the African Union Commission are arranging a high-level discussion on the role of renewable resources in energy security. “One of the focuses will be to emphasise the unique value renewables can play in African and other developing nations’ energy systems by looking to the European experience underway of a renewable energy transition and the implications for energy security,” according to the event’s announcement.
