Eighth IMI Call for Proposals Focuses on Ebola

The Innovative Medicines Initiative is a public-private partnership of the European Commission and European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industry and Associations. In December 2015 it launched its eighth call for proposals for research and innovation actions on the topic “Ebola and other filoviral haemorrhagic fevers (Ebola+) programme: future outbreaks”. There are four remaining deadlines for proposals to be submitted on a rolling basis: 15 September 2016, 16 March 2017, 14 September 2017, 15 March 2018. Study in Kenya: Insect Science PhD Scholarships at icipe

The International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe) working with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) are inviting prospective doctoral candidates to work on the African Regional Postgraduate Programme in Insect Sciences. “At icipe ARPPIS scholars are provided with excellent research facilities in an interdisciplinary environment within a structured, three-year training programme that includes research, training, seminars and participation in scientific meetings and international conferences,” a programme announcement says. “Scholars conduct their research at icipe’s laboratories as well as at field sites located in various agro-ecological zones.” Applications close 22 March 2016 and the study programme commences in September 2016. Agricultural Research Funding Available for Africans

African researchers are invited to apply for the Sustainable Agricultural Intensification Research and Learning in Africa (SAIRLA) research grant. “[This] grant scheme is to enable governments, investors and key actors to deliver more effective policies and investments in sustainable agricultural intensification that strengthen the capacity of poorer farmers, especially women and youth, to access and benefit from Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi, Tanzania and Zambia,” an announcement reports. Research must involve at least two of the target countries. Up to eight projects will be selected to receive a maximum of €1 million each. The deadline for applications is 19 November 2015.
