Annual e-Learning Africa Conference Heads to Cairo

The eleventh e-Learning Africa conference will take place in Cairo, Egypt, from 24-26 May 2016. According to the conference website, the gathering aims to bring together key stakeholders to discuss a range of ICT and education issues. “As the largest conference of its kind, the three-day event is a must for those wanting to develop multinational, cross-industry partnerships and contacts whilst sharing knowledge and learning new skills,” the website says. ICT 2015: Innovation, Connect, Transform

CAAST-Net Plus partner, Portugal’s Foundation for Science and Technology, has partnered with the European Commission to deliver the ICT 2015 conference. The event’s focus areas include: Innovation and creativity; People and the digital society; and, Industry, business and the digital economy. The event will also include a Horizon 2020 session on the available funding opportunities in ICT research and innovation under Work Programme (2015-7), as well as an exhibition for European ICT R&I projects and networking sessions. Uganda to Host Innovation Africa 2015

The theme of the fifth Innovation Africa summit, which takes place in Kampala later in the year, is “Developing African Skills for the 21st Century”. It is the “most desirable event to attend for ministers of education, higher education, ICT, science & research,” according to the event’s website. The event is co-organised by African Brains, an education and technology information network, and Uganda’s Ministry of Education and Sports. The event promises to bring together over 400 delegates, including senior government officials from 30 African countries. Registration for private sector delegates and sponsors is currently open. Tenth eLearning Africa Conference Goes to Ethiopia

The largest international gathering of ICT professionals working within African education and development will be held from 20 to 22 May 2015 in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa. The event is expected to draw approximately 1 500 participants, and will be held at the African Union headquarters. Information Science and ICT Research Conference

IST-Africa will hold its tenth technology research conference for ministers in Lilongwe, Malawi, from 6-8 May 2015. The agenda includes policy dialogues, international development, research cooperation, and community building. Stakeholders from the public and private sector will gather to discuss policy, exchange ideas, and explore areas of potential collaboration. The conference aims to offer support to the development of information science policy in Africa, and also promote, showcase and encourage international research and innovation in Africa. Report: African ICT Science Cooperation Projects

The FP7-funded IST-Africa consortium has published a study of bilateral and multilateral projects which focused on information and communications technologies (ICT) in Africa. The report specifically examined IST-Africa partners and according to the executive summary the aim is to “provide a starting point for a central repository of ICT projects and activities across Africa”. The study examined a total of 18 partner countries including Senegal, Egypt, South Africa, Angola and several European countries. A detailed mapping of donors supporting ICT innovation and research capacity in partner countries is also provided in the report. This study will be updated throughout 2015.
