Framework Conditions for Africa-EU Research and Innovation Cooperation in the Field of Food and Nutrition Security: An Action Research Report

Africa-EU research and innovation (R&I) cooperation is particularly crucial in the effort to ensure food and nutrition security (FNS) in Africa. Many initiatives have been set up to build the landscape of Africa-EU cooperation. These initiatives provide a dynamic context for bi-regional R&I cooperation in FNS, but it is expected that more and better cooperation could exist if appropriate framework conditions were implemented. The objective of this report is to reflect on the framework conditions that could offer a better enabling environment to foster bi-regional cooperation. [Image credit: CAAST-Net Plus]

Communication and Dissemination in an Africa-EU Research and Innovation Cooperation Network: A Reflective Report on the CAAST-Net Plus Experience (2013-2016)

This report has been developed by CAAST-Net Plus for the funders, programme/project managers, and communicators in EU-Africa research and innovation networks. Our assumption is that these practitioners may be considering the communication and dissemination (C&D) function in the programmes or projects they work on, and be seeking management ideas and practices for planning and monitoring purposes. Drawing on the CAAST-Net Plus network’s experiences, our goal with this report is to provide a clear and concise resource that responds to that need. [Image credit: CAAST-Net Plus]

The Global Nutrition Report annually assesses country progress against global nutrition targets. According to a press release by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFRI), the 2016 report “shows 44 percent of countries with data available (57 out of 129 countries) now experience very serious levels of both undernutrition and adult overweight and obesity, and that, despite good progress in some countries, the world is off track to reduce and reverse this trend”. The report is being launched on 14 June 2016 in a number of major cities globally, including Johannesburg, Nairobi and Stockholm. [Image credit: Global Nutrition Report 2016]

Potential Instruments for Implementing the EU-Africa Research and Innovation Partnership on Food and Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture

CAAST-Net Plus was tasked by the Bureau of the EU-Africa High Level Policy Dialogue (HLPD) on Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) to support the members of the HLPD Bureau’s Working Group 1, South Africa and the United Kingdom, in elaborating a section of the HLPD Expert Working Group’s contribution to a Roadmap for an Africa-EU Research and Innovation Partnership on Food and Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture (‘the Partnership’). Through a desktop review and interviews with key informants, this CAAST-Net Plus report analyses existing EU-Africa R&I projects related to FNSSA and recommends potential instruments for implementing the Partnership over the short-, medium- and long-term.[Image credit: CAAST-Net Plus]
