This presentation, developed by South African government representative, Vinny Pillay, provides an overview of South Africa’s science and technology partnership with the European Union. It was delivered at the Leading Enabling Technologies for Societal Challenges (LETS 2014) conference, held in Italy last month. The final section of the presentation, entitled “Perspectives on Horizon 2020”, includes a slide on South African perspectives, as well as challenges to participation. AU, TWAS, NCST Team Up on Malawi Young Scientist Award

The African Union and the World Academy of Sciences, known as TWAS, have partnered with Malawi’s National Commission for Science and Technology to recognise excellent young scientists in the east African country. Awardees will receive a cash prize of €3,666 ($5,000). Other science prizes up for grabs include the AU Women Scientist Regional Award and the AU Scientific Award. Registration is now open for the eI4Africa project’s e-infrastructures workshop on high performance computing. The event is being organised by the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology, in collaboration with French research and innovation consulting firm, Sigma Orionis.
